  • Save the Date: Working with Highly Sensitive Clients in Psychotherapy with Cindy Gale

    27th September, 10:00am - 1:00pm

    Online via Zoom

Many highly sensitive clients arrive in therapy carrying years of being misunderstood, having been told they are too emotional, too intense, too reactive, too easily hurt, too slow to decide, too affected by other people, or too overwhelmed by ordinary life.

This CPD seminar will help therapists recognise and work more effectively with highly sensitive clients.

Cindy Gale will draw on over 15 years of specialist clinical experience with HSPs, current research on Sensory Processing Sensitivity, and her own Transactional Analysis approach to working with highly sensitive clients.

    The seminar will include:

    • What high sensitivity is and how it shows up in therapy

    • How to identify a highly sensitive client in assessment and formulation

    • Common themes including shame, overwhelm, masking, self-doubt, relational sensitivity,

    burnout and feeling “too much”

    • Why high sensitivity is so often missed, misread or pathologised, and how clearer

    formulation can change the therapy

    • Why pace, attunement, environment, rupture and repair matter so much

    • How to work with the strengths of highly sensitive clients, rather than only their distress

    • Practical adjustments that can make therapy safer, deeper and more effective

  • Coming Soon: Film Screening and Discussion: Chaos Dragon and the Light

    Sunday 25 October

    Online via Zoom

    10.00am – 1.00pm

With the trauma of war, migration, and the refugee experience, resonating powerfully today, the film’s underlining theme of the role of art in healing is inspiring.

As a young girl, Marika Henriques was hidden from the Nazis in a Budapest cellar. She survived the Second World War only to find herself forced to flee Communist Hungary in her early 20s. Safely in Britain, she trained as a Jungian therapist. But it was the cathartic creation of extraordinary art that helped her to process her childhood trauma over several decades. Now in her 80s, she tells her story for the first time.

The review in The Journal of Analytical Psychology states: “The cumulative impact is assaultive, inspiring, intriguing and moving by turns”

The review in Outside In: “I shall carry this with me as I continue with my own inner work”

Continuing Professional Development for Counsellors and Psychotherapists

Our varied range of CPD workshops are held either in-person in North London, or online via Zoom. Currently all of our meetings are on Sundays.

Our CPD workshops are welcoming social occasions. We know counselling and psychotherapy can be a lonely profession, and most trainings are either online or in a room with strangers.

ACPNL events aim to combine professional development with the opportunity to meet colleagues in person, build connections and friendships in the pleasant surroundings of our venues.

Workshops cost £30 for members, and £40 for non-members for a half day.

All are welcome. To book your place visit our Eventbrite page.

A lot of our workshops are held at Terapia, N3

Testimonials from our CPD workshops

  • I was moved by people's openness and willingness to share their personal experiences.

  • Was a very useful and thought provoking workshop providing information and understanding of Neurodiversity and ADHD. I valued Leo's honesty when sharing his story and personal difficulties.

  • Very interesting, inclusive and well presented.

  • Good to hear Leo’s personal journey.

  • Relevant and insightful.

  • This is a topic that is currently widely debated and society’s attitudes to it are in a state of change. Our personal attitudes to it are extremely relevant, l think, to understanding and managing our family and social relationships ( not to mention our relationships with ourselves).

  • I always find the ACPNL workshops - originating, as they do, with a focus on client/therapist relationships and the intention of enriching professional understandings, add a lot to my thinking generally. I thought that Leo’s account of his personal growth and insights over recent years, movingly and effectively made the link between personal and professional and offered a lot of food for thought.

  • I appreciated Christiane's wealth of knowledge and experience and also her down-to-earth approach. There was enough material for a couple of workshops. The material was put across in a way that I easily understood and retained.

  • The speaker was excellent. She covered so much in just 3hrs. Attending this workshop would be most beneficial for anyone working with abused clients. Thank you ACPNL for offering this excellent workshop.

  • It was amazing! Maybe it was even too short, considering the nature of the topic. Reasonable price, a fantastic deliverer, and good timing. I enjoyed having the reading beforehand.
